Firstly, thanks for all the help after I uploaded my last piece!
After getting everyone’s feedback on my first try, thinking more about what I wanted to achieve (keeping feedback in mind) and focussing on building up more depth and contrast (and better lighting), this is what I came up with.
It’s about 8 – 10 hours work (I think, not really timing). I started off by brushing in the base shape, adding a texture and colour to it, then using sxc stock photos to build in the different parts of the nebula. Finally I added in the small stars and some larger ones of varying degrees and applied levels and colour balanced everything.
Feedback would really really be appreciated in any aspect, how could I have improved it, what did I do wrong right etc.
Whoa, this is your 2nd try? Curse you people and your talent!
Excellent, I like it
I like the colours, and the way it goes into a slight green in the shadows, it's good you're playing with multiple colours etc.
I'm usually no good with in depth critique so I'll leave it at that
Hmmm i'm going to say I actually like the first try better. This is because the first one had the sense of lighting - in other words, rather than just a mass of white light, it had gradated light.
However, this piece could still work if you tryadding some definition. My eyes miss something to look at. Something to draw me in.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.

I'm pretty new to painting and have done mostly photo manipulation in the past and I'm not so good at that yet.
Could you explain what you meant by definition please?
Lighting is a hard thing to fathom!
Thanks a lot for your reply.
David
By definition I mean detail..sharper shapes, sound structuring in the clouds and layers.
And hell yes, lighting is the one key quality to spaceart that makes it great - all great pieces of space art have sound use of light.

More things to keep in mind for next time. I think I'll leave that one as is and see if i can improve from there.
Just take it easy and make the genre work for you.
